Power Supply in South to Be Boosted: Vietnam expects to nearly double its electric power supply in the southern provinces by the end of the decade, according to state-run radio. New power plants and a high-voltage transmission line will boost power available to southern Vietnam from 983 megawatts to 1,700, the official Voice of Vietnam said in a broadcast monitored in Bangkok. The country’s southern provinces hope to become a major low-wage, export manufacturing area fueled by foreign investment after the United States lifts the economic embargo it imposed at the end of the Vietnam War.
