Deficit Reduction

Share

* Ignoring $90 billion in true deficit reduction, the Democrat-controlled U.S. House of Representatives once again said “no” to a measure that promised to eliminate wasteful government spending (Nov. 23).

Curiously, many Democrats joined with Republicans in supporting the John R. Kasich (D-Minn.)/Timothy J. Penny (R-Ohio) package which, among other things, would have cut Congress’ budget by 7.5% and taxpayer-financed mail by 20%.

Sadly, the measure would have passed if only three more Democrats had supported it.

When are members of Congress going to understand that it’s time to make difficult spending decisions? The rest of us make them every day; why can’t Congress?
