GM to Discontinue 10-Day Sales Reports: The nation’s No. 1 auto maker said that starting in 1994, it will release vehicle sales figures monthly instead of every 10 days. The decision came “as a result of an ongoing process of streamlining internal business practices within our North American Operations,” a General Motors Corp. statement said. Ford Motor Co., the No. 2 auto maker, is expected to follow suit. Chrysler Corp. went from a 10-day sales reporting schedule to a monthly one two years ago. The auto industry’s practice of releasing 10-day sales figures goes back decades. The numbers--used to track the industry’s health--offer hints about the overall economy weeks before other indicators, such as government reports on consumer spending, are released.
