Cerplex Acquisition: Cerplex Group Inc. of Santa Ana, which repairs computers and makes new parts for them, said Wednesday it has bought another computer-repair company for an undisclosed price.

Buying Diversified Manufacturing Services in Newburgh, N.Y., gives Cerplex a better position in the East Coast market, Cerplex said.

Diversified, like Cerplex, is a “fourth party” repair service. Such concerns do not make “house calls” on sick computers--they are “depot” repair services to which computer users ship their machines.

But Diversified and Cerplex both do repairs for companies that offer field service. Such companies often compete with computer manufacturers for that repair business.

Lately, Cerplex has been buying other repair companies, a spokesman said, and may sell stock to the public next year for the first time.
