IVC to Hold Cultural Arts Competition

Share

Irvine Valley College on Saturday will play host to the second annual “Reflections,” a competition for artists, writers, musicians and photographers from grade schools and high schools.

About 200 students in all grades--kindergarten through high school--are expected to compete. The competition will be from 1 to 3 p.m., and students will submit entries in literature, music, photography and visual arts.

“Reflections” is a cultural arts program jointly sponsored by the Irvine PTA, the Irvine Unified School District, the Irvine Valley College School of Fine Arts and School of Humanities and Languages and the Irvine Valley College Foundation.

“It gives children an opportunity to express themselves outside the curriculum framework,” said Monica Bonno, chairwoman of “Reflections” for the Irvine Council PTA.

She said the participating students “do this on their own, outside of the teachers’ direction.”
