SIMI VALLEY : Council to Receive Wal-Mart Vote Count

Share

Final election results for Wal-Mart’s bid to build a store in Simi Valley will be presented Monday to the City Council.

Of the 21,105 ballots cast Nov. 2, 11,037 opposed allowing the nation’s largest discount retailer to build a store on a hillside, and 9,652 endorsed the idea.

City staff members will also ask the council to authorize a $22,000 refund to Wal-Mart from Simi Valley--the unspent portion of a deposit the retailer made to get the issue placed on the ballot.

The unsuccessful bid ended up costing Wal-Mart $120,000.
