Re “New Senators Are Great at Being Praised,” Nov. 19: Can’t our elected officials find a way to be civil to each other without the hyperbole Glenn Bunting refers to as “a hearty breakfast” for every member? Is it any wonder they act as though they lived in a magic kingdom?

Our Sen. Barbara Boxer is quoted as saying: “There is a sense of respect for one another.” Isn’t she (along with many others) just a little confused? Wouldn’t you have a little more respect for someone who spoke honestly? Just perhaps their legislation might be more honest if their responses to each other were more honest.
