FIGHTING BACK: The Orange Police Department may be getting more attention with its photographing of potential young gang members than it expected. Last week an appellate court ruled its “gang photo books” were unconstitutional. . . . Today, members of the Asian American group AWARE will pass out leaflets in Little Saigon urging youths to let the group know if police try to photograph them. They will be with a crew from CBS’ Dan Rather-Connie Chung show “Eye on America.”

LOOKING SOUTH: When President Clinton signs the North American Free Trade Agreement in Washington today, one of those looking on will be Luis Contreras, president of Johnston Environmental in Santa Ana, a plastics company. . . . Though Contreras supports improved relations between the U.S. and Latin American countries, he has a personal interest. A Johnston spokesman said a huge part of its business is in Mexico, Latin America and South America: “And this can only help us.”

GENDER GAME? Goaltender Manon Rheaume, the first woman to play professional hockey, has agreed to participate in the Kings-Mighty Ducks celebrity exhibition game Thursday night at Anaheim Arena. . . . Right now she’s in minor league hockey, part of the National Hockey League’s Tampa Bay Lightning organization. How good is she? “She’s pretty good,” said Ducks goaltender Ron Tugnutt. Game proceeds go to Southland fire relief efforts of the American Red Cross.

PRIME WAR: Linesmen for the exhibition hockey game will be Brian Burke, an NHL senior vice president who metes out suspension to players, and Bob Goodenow, executive director of the NHL Players Assn. “This may be the first time the players have to separate the linesmen,” joked Jeffrey Pash, NHL senior VP and general counsel. . . . Prime Ticket will broadcast the charity hockey game live at 7:35 p.m., with replays Friday at 8 a.m. and Saturday at 10:30 p.m.
