State Opens Probe of Home Builder: The state attorney general’s office is investigating an Orange County builder of custom homes that many customers have accused of slipshod work and inappropriate business practices. Deputy Atty. Gen. Anne Mendoza said agents of the state Contractors Licensing Board and from her office in Los Angeles are looking into allegations that Gotech Builders Inc. of Orange has been operating under a suspended license. She said they are also reviewing some of the company’s financial dealings. Gotech’s license was suspended indefinitely Oct. 13, but several Gotech clients said company executives never told them of the suspension and have continued trying to collect money--an activity prohibited by the licensing board. Gotech owner Jeffrey Weiner denied any wrongdoing. He said he is operating in accordance with the licensing board’s orders, which allow him to assign contracts to other builders so the projects can be completed.
