PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Anderson Tired of Being Forgotten

Share

Wide receiver Flipper Anderson, who hasn’t caught a touchdown pass since Oct. 14, said Wednesday he is frustrated by his role.

Anderson is third on the team in receptions with 26 for 439 yards and three touchdowns but has regularly been taken out on first down and in scoring opportunities. He called himself a “forgotten man.”

“It’s been a dismal season,” he said. “I haven’t fulfilled what the coaches (thought) I could do. But it’s just getting an opportunity, and I don’t feel like I’ve had the greatest of opportunities throughout the year.

“The last three or four weeks I haven’t been a part of the offense until the third or fourth quarter.”

With an inexperienced quarterback in T.J. Rubley and a patchwork offensive line, Coach Chuck Knox is concerned about crowd noise when the Rams play the New Orleans Saints on Sunday at the Superdome, considered one of the loudest domed stadiums in the NFL.

“The crowd noise is a big factor,” he said. “You have to do a couple of things. One is a silent count, and when you do that you’re going on the same key as the defensive line, the key on the ball. The other things teams are doing is (hand signals).”

Starting safeties Michael Stewart (sprained ankle) and Anthony Newman (sore hamstring) practiced Wednesday and should be ready for Sunday’s game. . . . Safety Pat Terrell (shoulder) practiced and is listed as doubtful. . . . Starting linebacker Shane Conlan (sprained knee ligament) missed practice and is doubtful. . . . Offensive tackle Jackie Slater (torn pectoral muscle) and guard Tom Newberry (sprained knee) will not play.
