Pop Album Chart : Carey Closing on Snoop Dogg’s Tail
Mariah Carey’s “Music Box” is inching back up the chart, climbing another notch to No. 2--thanks to all that exposure she got on her Thanksgiving TV special. When Snoop Dogg’s album sales come back to earth, Carey may just slip past him and become pop’s top pup. All that publicity about the song written by Charles Manson hasn’t helped sales of Guns N’ Roses’ “The Spaghetti Incident?,” which sank from No. 4 to No. 10. Phil Collins’ album, “Both Sides,” down three more notches to No. 30, is closer to claiming the Flop of the Year award. “The Bodyguard” soundtrack, already over the 10 million mark, is on the rise again, probably due to the price of the video being recently lowered to $20. Apparently, new fans are turning on to the video and, consequently, to the soundtrack, which jumped from No. 28 to No. 21.
* Gill is still leading the Christmas-album sweepstakes, with “Let There Be Peace on Earth” moving up three notches to No. 14. In the next two weeks, it should ascend into the Top 10, with Gill claiming this year’s Christmas-album sales crown. His main competition is Harry Connick Jr.’s “When My Heart Finds Christmas” (No. 16) and Boyz II Men’s “Christmas Interpretations” (No. 19).
