FOUR BRIGHT LIGHTS: Hanukkah nights are chaotic at the home of Sandra Decker. But every night is at least a bit at this West Hills household. Decker is a single mother. With quadruplets. Who are 9 years old (B1). . . . Even though these kids are certainly a handful, they also bring Decker a lot of joy. Especially on nights at this time of year when they light the holiday candles.

HEALTH CHOICE-MAKERS: Two local congressmen will play key roles in the debate over a national health care bill (B2). . . . Rep. Carlos J. Moorhead (R-Glendale)--the ranking Republican on the committee that will consider the bill--supports a plan that is less comprehensive and less costly than the Clinton Administration’s. Rep. Henry A. Waxman (D-Los Angeles)--chairman of the committee’s health and environment subcommittee--favors a plan even more comprehensive than Clinton’s.

HOPEFUL PRAYERS: For a few hours Sunday afternoon, “the single worst block” in the San Fernando Valley became a place of celebration and hope (B1). . . . In honor of the feast day of the Virgin of Guadalupe, families came together on Blythe Street to see their children celebrate first Communion. And they offered prayers that crime in the gang-infested area will continue to ease.

YOU CAN’T DANCE TO IT: Valencia High School was the name chosen over Santa Clarita Valley High School for the city’s newest senior high. One reason: The latter name is too long to fold inside an athletic cheer. And La Mesa Junior High School was chosen for another new school (B14). . . . The selections follow a tradition of naming high schools according to geography and giving junior high schools Spanish names. By the way, there already is a Valencia High School--in Orange County.
