Bad weather forced Vice President Al Gore to change his travel plans Sunday, flying to Kyrgyzstan at the start of a three-nation visit to the former Soviet Union, a U.S. official said.

Gore had been due to start his trip with a stop in Alma-Ata, capital of the vast, oil-rich republic of Kazakhstan. But he changed his plans after fog closed Alma-Ata airport, said the official, speaking by telephone from the Kyrgyz capital of Bishkek.
