State Pay Hikes

Share

* In response to “Wilson Would End Automatic Pay Hikes for State Workers,” Dec. 9:

I have to ask, “What pay hikes??” For the last 10 years, both Gov. Pete Wilson and former Gov. George Deukmejian refused to grant automatic pay hikes to state employee union members unless forced to do so by court order. Yes, every time, they were first denied a raise and were dared to sue for one--and the hikes were always compromise amounts. These lawsuits cost the state money.

Both Republican administrations have been notoriously anti-employee and portrayed these employees as some kind of freeloaders.
