TECHNOLOGY : IBM Makes Divisional Shift

Chairman Louis Gerstner gave the top executive for the company’s biggest computers additional responsibility for the smaller machines, called workstations, and for software that runs on personal computers. The IBM RS-6000 workstation division and Personal Software Products division will now report to John M. Thompson, senior vice president for large-scale and mid-size systems. The units, along with the PC hardware divisions, had been reporting to James Cannavino until he was put in charge of IBM’s corporate strategy last month.
