Share

The Someone Cares Soup Kitchen will hold a Christmas dinner Thursday and will likely feed 700 to 800 people, coordinator Art Rorden said.

The food will be provided by Michael Kang, who owns the Five Feet Restaurant in Laguna Beach.

Kang said he is preparing turkey-based ham, potatoes, string beans and other fixings for 1,000 people.

Any leftovers will go to other organizations that feed the hungry, he said.

Rorden said the soup kitchen fed 920 people, including 383 children, at its Thanksgiving meal.

He said soup kitchen founder Merle Hatleberg, who has battled cancer, will be at the dinner.

People dressed as Santa and Mrs. Claus will give a toy to each child who comes to eat, Rorden said.

The dinner will be served from noon to 3 p.m. at the REA Community Center, 661 Hamilton St.
