OXNARD : Payment Takes Place of Police Raises

Share

Police officers in Oxnard will not receive pay raises for 1993, but they will get lump-sum payments of $515 next month, under an agreement approved Tuesday by the Oxnard City Council.

With little discussion, council members approved a two-year agreement with the Oxnard Police Officers Assn. that covers the 1993 and 1994 budget years.

The agreement also raises the ceiling on top salaries so that longtime department employees will have the opportunity to move higher on the pay scale after a year as a top wage earner.

In his report to the City Council, City Manager Thomas Frutchey said the agreement would cost the city about $191,000 this year and $413,000 for fiscal 1994-95.

The 1994-95 allocation represents a 3.5% pay raise for the 187 full-time officers and department employees, Frutchey said. The money will be taken from the general fund and utility fund budget, he said.

Police officers association representatives could not be reached for comment. No one at the Oxnard Police Department late Tuesday would comment on the agreement.
