SANTA PAULA, FILLMORE : Training Program to Aid Jobless Youths

Share

Troubled teen-agers and young adults with little chance for employment are being encouraged to apply to a new federally funded job-training program that begins in Santa Paula in January.

Arbor Inc., a national organization that helps high school dropouts and juvenile offenders find work, will run the program.

The organization plans to enroll more than 30 youths from Santa Paula and Fillmore.

Candidates for the program must be between 18 and 21 years old and have “multiple barriers to employment.”

The organization describes these barriers as having a prison record, being unemployed for a long period of time, being on welfare or having a history of drug abuse.

Candidates selected for the positions will receive remedial reading and math lessons when necessary, and be taught techniques for looking for work when the program is over.
