Jury deliberations continued Tuesday with no verdicts in the Menendez brothers’ murder trial.

Lyle Menendez’s jury completed a seventh day of talks; Erik Menendez’s jury, in a fourth day of deliberations, went home early because a juror was ill.

Lyle Menendez, 25, and Erik Menendez, 23, are charged with first-degree murder in the Aug. 20, 1989, shotgun slayings of their parents, Jose Menendez, 45, a wealthy entertainment executive, and Kitty Menendez, 47.

The brothers admit the slayings but said they lashed out in fear after years of physical, emotional and sexual abuse. Prosecutors contend the brothers killed out of hatred and greed.

Two juries are hearing the case because some evidence is admissible against one brother. The juries are deliberating on different floors of the Van Nuys courthouse and are not allowed to mingle with one another.
