Nation IN BRIEF : COLORADO : 8 Malls Bar Santa After Death Threats

From Times Staff and Wire Reports

At least eight malls in Colorado have sent Santa packing because of death threats by someone who sent anonymous letters and faxes that began arriving Dec. 14. One letter, signed “Terminator,” said the attack on Santa and “anybody that gets in my way” would eclipse the shooting rampage that killed four people at an Aurora mall. Children left the malls teary-eyed after hearing that they wouldn’t be able to whisper their Christmas dreams to St. Nick. Some malls posted signs near empty chairs that said Santa had returned to the North Pole for urgent business. One of the threatening letters said, “Christmas should be a time to rejoice on Jesus’ birthday. I have extremely much hatred for those who make this holy day into a mockery of his birth.”
