Hughes to Build Satellites for Japan: Hughes Space and Communications Co. said it will negotiate a contract to build two communications satellites for Japan’s Broadcasting Satellite System. The satellites will be launched in 1997 and 1998 under the plan, which will mean continued work for hundreds of workers in Hughes’ El Segundo satellite plant, the company said. The satellites, Hughes’ HS 376 models, will provide broadcasting services for NHK and Japan Satellite Broadcasting Co. among others.
