Afternoon showers had many Orange County residents reaching for their umbrellas Sunday, but the weather is expected to clear up today and remain sunny for the rest of the week, according to weather forecasters.

Although it may have seemed otherwise to people who were caught in the showers, it actually rained very little Sunday.

“Basically it’s been pretty light,” said James McCutcheon, a meteorologist with WeatherData Inc., which provides weather forecasts for The Times. “It wasn’t a storm really--just a bunch of subtropical clouds moving through the area.”

The most rain fell at Catalina Island--a grand total of 0.7 inches. About 0.01 of an inch fell in Lake Forest over the last 24 hours, meteorologists said.

Orange County temperatures remained fairly moderate. Santa Ana had a high of 70 degrees with a low of 54, Anaheim a high of 61 and low of 52, Newport Beach a high of 64 and low of 54, and Lake Forest a high of 64 and low of 55.

Temperatures are expected to climb into the 70s as the week progresses.

“There’s not a whole lot of cold air, so you guys should start to warm up pretty decently,” McCutcheon said.
