Nissan Air Bags Probed: The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has received owner complaints that the air bags in Maxima sedans can deploy unexpectedly, Automotive News magazine said. The agency said it knows of 67 owner complaints in which the bags in 1992 and 1993 Maximas deployed after the cars hit potholes or speed bumps, according to the magazine. Nissan said there is nothing wrong with the systems, that the bumps are hard enough to deploy the air bags and that in most cases the vehicles suffered enough underbody damage for the air bag to be deployed. Still, Nissan changed the air bag sensors in those cars earlier this year, and there is evidence that the rate of complaints has dropped since then, the magazine said.
