Chrysler Garners Its Biggest Market Share Since 1970: The No. 3 U.S. auto maker said it sold 2 million vehicles in the first 11 months of 1993 and that, through November, it held a 14.5% market share. It projected it will stay at that mark through the year, for a 1.4 percentage point increase for the year. In 1970, Chrysler Corp. had 14.8% of the market. The company’s all-time high U.S. auto market share was 15.0%, set in 1968. Chrysler was bailed out by the federal government in 1980 with loan guarantees, but it made a comeback by slashing costs and payroll. Through November, Chrysler said sales were running 21% ahead of calendar 1992.
