Talking About God

Share

Rabbi David J. Wolpe is right (Commentary, Dec. 19), spirituality has gone from the American family. Yet he, like everyone else, blames the parents.

What he and the religious right don’t seem to realize is that spirituality is gone from America because religious leadership has lost the spiritual path. Many religious leaders are more interested in the size of their TV audience, in the size of their bank accounts than they are in demonstrating a spiritual message of love. Many are more concerned with judging the morality of others rather than in being a moral example of love and good will.

Parents are embarrassed to talk about spirituality when all around them the TV ministers are using the public as a cash cow. If there were 10 Mother Teresas for each TV evangelist, parents would have no trouble, no embarrassment in discussing spiritual meaning with their children.
