Steel Companies, Union Issue Dumping Charges: Five U.S. steel bar producers and the United Steelworkers of America asked the government to impose anti-dumping duties on exporters in Brazil, India, Italy, Japan and Spain. A petition filed with the Commerce Department and the International Trade Commission said stainless steel bar from those countries is being sold in the United States at less than fair value. The five countries accounted for about 65% of total stainless steel bar imports in 1993, said a written statement released by the U.S. companies and their union. Steel companies in those countries are probably being motivated by recessions in their home markets, the statement said.
