An Added Perspective on the Valley

Share

You may have noticed that the title of this page changed three weeks ago, From “Valley Editorials” to “Valley Perspective.” We’re taking a moment to explain why.

Since April, The Times has produced a separate page of editorials on Sundays devoted to matters of interest to the San Fernando, Antelope and Santa Clarita valleys, and Glendale. But events often require immediate attention, such as the first reports, in November, of a serial child molester at large in the San Fernando Valley. The Times’ first editorial on those crimes appeared on the following day, a Wednesday, and ran in every edition of the newspaper.

On many occasions, the news that happens here is mirrored by events in other parts of Los Angeles or Southern California as a whole. At such times, an editorial addressing the problem of graffiti vandalism, for example, might highlight solutions that have worked here or in other parts of the state or the nation. Those Valley-area editorials frequently appear during the week, on The Times’ main editorial page.

Times Valley Edition readers will now find it easier to locate these weekday editorials on matters of importance to them. They will be highlighted by the headline “Valley Perspective.” To prevent confusion, the Sunday Valley Edition editorial page now carries the same name.

It’s another sign of our belief that the valleys and their environs have evolved into far more complex and diverse localities that are deserving of more attention, opinion, debate and comment.
