MCA Effort to Relocate Proposed Rail Station

Share

* A recent letter writer (Dec. 12) takes MCA to task for supporting a new alternative location for the Universal City subway station.

Sure, MCA would be happy if this new location were approved. And so too, would the hundreds of small retailers and other small businesses located in the Universal City area who would benefit from the commuters and tourists using the subway station.

Local residents would benefit as well. There will be relief from added traffic congestion along Lankershim Boulevard if the station is built on the new site. And commuters coming and going will be able to park right next to the subway station, instead of in lots that are inconvenient and far removed.

The new location would benefit virtually everyone. Lets hope the MTA makes the wisest decision and gives a “thumbs up” to this site.

* I have just read about Universal Studios’ request that a subway station proposed for the area around Lankershim and Ventura boulevards be located at its CityWalk attraction (Sept. 30).

Asking the tired workers to climb the hill to the studios is about as thoughtless as you can get. Yes, I think it would help their business on the hill, but is that the focus of the city’s attention, or is it for the workers who must make this trip every day, unlike tourists at CityWalk?

I hope the entire Valley supports resistance to this suggestion.
