CD Cautions Kids: Media Resources Inc., a publisher of multimedia software, has begun shipping a compact disc aimed at making children aware of the dangers of abduction.

“T.J. Finds a Friend,” recommended for children ages 3 to 11, is a multimedia storybook that youngsters use like a game and that teaches them while they play. It uses a CD-ROM format, which is based on the same technology as music CDs and has enough storage space for a multimedia presentation--one that features sound, graphics, video and text.

In the story, characters T.J., Rose and Boomer the Dog show children how they can avoid dangerous situations. In one scene, T.J. and friends help reunite a missing child with his parents.

Media Resources, based in Brea, will donate 20% of sales proceeds to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, a nonprofit group that finds missing children. Among the retailers selling the discs are Egghead Software and Computer City. The price: $29.95.
