Judge Likes Defendants to Write Their Wrongs
Associated Press
BATON ROUGE, La. —
One way to right a wrong is to write a lot, a judge believes.
District Judge Mike Erwin sentenced a shoplifter to write 10,000 times: “I will not steal other people’s property.”
Another woman, who pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact to a burglary, had to write 10,000 times: “I will not do anything stupid again.”
The judge, who has issued dozens of such sentences, said he hopes forcing defendants to write about their crimes will make them think about what they have done.
