Santa Monica : Spanish Immersion Program
Edison Elementary School is seeking students to take part in its Two-Way Spanish Immersion Program in the fall.
The program teaches Spanish- and English-speaking children together with the goal of making them bilingual and literate in both languages. Instruction is mostly in Spanish in kindergarten and first grade, and English instruction is increased as the children get older. By fourth grade, instruction is evenly split between the two languages; by then, most of the students are fluent in both.
As space permits, applicants who live outside the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District will be considered for the program. English-speaking children with no background in Spanish may enter the program only in kindergarten or first grade.
