COUNTYWIDE FOCUS : Grant Awarded for Oil Recycling

Share

The city of Moorpark has been awarded an $8,462 state grant that will allow it to establish an oil and oil filter recycling program in the city, officials said.

In partnership with Easy Oil, located in the Park Lane Auto Center, the city next month will begin accepting used filters and up to 20 gallons of used oil per person per day, said Jill Rubin Myers, the city’s solid waste coordinator.

“It’s an overall benefit because people can save time and gas by going to a local facility rather than having to drive out of the city,” Myers said. “Currently there’s no place in Moorpark that accepts oil from walk-in clients.”

The grant was awarded by the California Integrated Waste Management Board and will be used to purchase oil and filter storage equipment and to publicize the program, Myers said.

Residents who recycle their oil by dropping it off at Easy Oil will be given a cash incentive of 4 cents per quart, Myers said. The city is also looking to expand the program by joining forces with other automotive businesses interested in becoming certified as oil drop-off centers, she said.
