Sea Change
The U.S. destroyer Paul F. Foster heads out to sea, as the sun sets on an era. The Long Beach Naval Station and Long Beach Naval Hospital face closure, and the Navy’s two housing tracts are nearly abandoned. If all goes as city leaders plan, a mega-mall will take the place of the naval station. A university research park, two schools, a housing project for the homeless and a job-training center will erase any signs of the housing tracts.
