Jury Limits USAir’s Liability for Crash: A federal jury in Cleveland decided that the airline should not have to pay punitive damages for the accident at New York’s La Guardia Airport in March, which killed 27 people and injured 24 others. The jury found that the carrier was not reckless in its operation of the Cleveland-bound flight, which plunged into Flushing Bay while taking off in a snowstorm. U.S. District Judge Thomas D. Lambros earlier ruled that the airline was negligent and therefore liable for medical expenses and other compensatory damages.
