Tokos Medical to Lay Off 200 Workers

Tokos Medical Corp. plans to consolidate centers providing certain services and lay off 200 employees nationwide, although the job losses in Orange County will be offset by gains in other areas, executives said Thursday.

Tokos plans to consolidate its telemedical services, in which staff members speak directly with patients to educate them about the company’s products. It also plans to eliminate its manufacturing operations and contract out that work.

The job losses in those areas will be offset in Orange County by bringing people from other units to the company’s Santa Ana headquarters, said chief financial officer Nicholas A. Mione. Nationwide, the 200 positions being eliminated represent about 10% of the company’s total work force.
