Msgr. Strange of Holy Family Cathedral Dies at 87 : Msgr. Donald Strange, rector emeritus of Holy Family Cathedral in Orange, died Thursday. He was 87.

Strange was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles on May 14, 1932. He served as a Navy chaplain during World War II, and later was appointed to churches in Los Angeles, Claremont and Pasadena.
In 1963, Msgr. Strange was appointed pastor of the Holy Family Parish in Orange, where he built the rectory, sisters’ chapel and convent.
He was named Episcopal Vicar for Orange County in 1974 by Cardinal Timothy Manning of Los Angeles. Two years later, he became the first vicar general of the newly established Diocese of Orange. That same year he was also appointed rector of the Holy Family Cathedral.
He retired in 1978 but continued to live at Holy Family Cathedral, where he served as rector emeritus until his death.
A vigil and reception will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Holy Family Cathedral. On Tuesday, the funeral liturgy will be held at 10 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, 4201 Whittier Blvd. at Downey Road.
