VENTURA : Owner Seeks to Sell Noren’s Market

Share

The owner of Noren’s Market, one of the few neighborhood grocery stores in Ventura, has announced that she is negotiating with buyers to take over her store.

“We’re a dinosaur. We don’t do enough business,” said Peggy Carr, who has owned the store for more than three years. “Everyone goes to the big clubs.”

Carr said most of her customers come in to purchase only a few things and do the bulk of their grocery shopping at supermarkets. The market offers fresh and dry goods, and its meat selection in particular has attracted a faithful group of customers.

Carr declined to give details of her negotiations with two potential buyers but said the sale may be closed as quickly as next week.

She said she has been losing money on the store and has been trying to sell the 39-year-old market on Telegraph Road for six months.

Carr said she did not know what would happen to her store after she sold it.

“They’re grocery-store people, so I’m sure it will continue to be a grocery store,” she said.
