FULLERTON : Panel OKs Fee Hike for City Golf Course

Share

The Community Services Commission this week approved an increase in fees at the city golf course, which is managed by American Golf Corp.

The City Council will consider the rate increase Feb. 18, said commission secretary Betty Schwarzkopf.

Under the proposal, an 18-hole game on the weekend would cost $21, up from $18. A full game during the week would cost $16 instead of $14. And there would be a $1 reservation fee for 18-hole games on weekends and holidays.

The last rate increase was in 1991. City staff said they believe that the new rate increase will not deter people from playing the course.

Jan Hobson, community service superintendent, said neighboring courses charge similar fees. The Imperial Golf Course in Brea and the H.G. Dad Miller course in Anaheim charge $22 for an 18-hole game during the weekend, while the La Mirada Golf Course charges $21, she said.

American Golf Corp. staff, in asking for the rate increase, noted that the company spent $149,500 to upgrade the course in 1993, and plans to spend another $40,000 this year.

The company reported spending $55,000 last year to put in 7,200 feet of concrete for golf cart paths. The paths kept the front nine holes open during some flooding that would have previously forced the course to close.

It also spent $60,000 to build a new bridge for the third hole, in addition to planting 125 new trees, seeding the fairways and installing some new sod.

More than 85,000 rounds of golf were played on the course last year, according to American Golf Corp.
