A summary of selected Los Angeles City Hall decisions affecting the Westside in the last week.

City Council

Public Restrooms: Councilwoman Jackie Goldberg proposed that the city consider a pilot program to install sidewalk pay toilets on public property in designated areas. The restrooms would be of particular use in areas of the city crowded with tourists, shoppers and the homeless, Goldberg said.

Reward Offer: Approved offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the shooting death of Rosana Noriega Dimitri during an attempted robbery near Pico Boulevard and Overland Avenue in November.

Reward Increase: Approved increasing to $25,000 from $10,000 the reward offer for information leading to the arrest and conviction of two suspects in the shooting death of Mark Arthur Switzer during an attempted robbery at 5750 W. Pico Blvd. in August.

City Clerk: Rejected a proposal to allow discussion of the city’s Civil Service Commission decision last year that allowed Elias (Lee) Martinez to return to his job as city clerk. Martinez was fired by the council after sexual harassment charges were filed against him, but the commission ruled there was no evidence of misconduct. Failed: 7 to 8.

Voting Yes: Marvin Braude, Ruth Galanter, Goldberg, Mark Ridley-Thomas and Zev Yaroslavsky.

Voting No: John Ferraro and Nate Holden.

Home Equity Fraud: Approved a pilot program to assist low-income people facing loss of their homes through home-equity fraud schemes. The program is funded by a $250,000 city grant.

Passed: 13-0

Voting Yes: Braude, Ferraro, Galanter, Goldberg, Holden and Ridley-Thomas. Absent: Yaroslavsky.
