HAITI : U.S. Won’t Agree to Aristide Return Date

Secretary of State Warren Christopher said exiled Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide’s Feb. 7 target for resuming power “probably is not workable.” Interviewed on NBC’s “Meet the Press” from Geneva, Christopher said, “I think the establishment of that kind of deadline probably is not workable at the present time, although we’ll continue to help President Aristide.” He added: “I think we’re not going to commit to that kind of deadline.”
