Borland Earnings Plunge: Borland International Inc. reported fiscal third-quarter earnings more than 80% below analysts’ expectations. For the quarter ended Dec. 31, the Scotts Valley, Calif.-based computer software company posted net income of $418,000, or 2 cents a share, contrasted with a net loss of $61.3 million, or $2.34 a share, in the year-ago quarter. Last year’s results included a onetime charge of $34.8 million for restructuring that included 350 layoffs and an inventory write-down. Revenue rose 7.1% to $111.7 million, from $104.3 million in the year-ago period.
