Northwest Files for Initial Public Offering: The nation’s fourth-largest airline displayed surprising confidence in its financial stability only months after a brush with bankruptcy in its filing with the Securities & Exchange Commission. The company said it will offer 20 million shares of Class A common stock. The offering would raise about $400 million in equity. Northwest said in a statement that it expects the offering to occur in the first quarter of 1994. The Minneapolis-based carrier is a subsidiary of NWA Inc., which is owned by Northwest Airlines Corp. Northwest Airlines is 49%-owned by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.
