SOUTH GATE : Cable Show to Offer Math Tips, Seminars

Share

South Gate school administrators, city officials and business owners will be introduced to “Cable Connections,” a local cable-TV show that features math tips from teachers and students, at 4 p.m. Monday at Liberty Cable, 3125 Firestone Blvd.

The public is invited.

Participants will be given a list of materials, volunteers and cash donations needed to get the twice-weekly, half-hour show off the ground, said Janet Fujii, a member of the program committee and a math resource teacher at South Gate Middle School.

Project coordinators will provide an overview of the show, along with an outline of the program committee’s goals.

The community volunteers will be asked to recruit individuals to staff a phone bank to raise money for the program and to star in the show itself, Fujii said.

Start-up costs could be nearly $20,000, said Robert Mellonig, Liberty Cable’s director of programming.

The committee has also scheduled its first monthly “Fast Saturday” math workshop for March. The workshops, which will emphasize lessons discussed on the show, will rotate among the local elementary and middle schools, Fujii said.

“Cable Connections” is scheduled to begin in April on Liberty Cable’s SGTV, community channel 3.
