Share

Yevgeny Ivanov, 68, the Russian spy involved in the 1960s Profumo sex scandal that nearly brought down the British government. As a Soviet military intelligence officer in London in the early 1960s, Ivanov began seeing Christine Keeler, who was also sexually involved with John Profumo, the British secretary of state for war. When questions were raised about a possible security breach, Profumo at first denied knowing Keeler, then admitted to the affair and resigned June 5, 1963. Ivanov had been recalled to Moscow in December, 1962, months before the scandal broke. He died there Wednesday of unannounced causes.
