Orange, Sr.

Basketball / Guard

Gonzales led Orange County with 92 three-point baskets last season. Although that pace has slowed, Orange coaches are happier with Gonzales’ play because of his improved defense, rebounding, passing and shooting percentage. Friday, against then-No. 3 Santa Ana Valley, Gonzales had 22 points, including five three-pointers, and a season-high 12 rebounds as the Panthers won, 64-58, and moved into sole possession of first place in the Century League. Wednesday, Gonzales had 15 points and seven rebounds in a 61-56 victory over El Modena.

Other notables:

* Greg Abbott, Troy, who averaged 22 points in Freeway League victories over Sunny Hills and Fullerton.

* Jason Fikse, Esperanza, posted his third and fourth consecutive Empire League shutouts, a 0-0 tie with Los Alamitos and 2-0 over Loara.

* Judd Nester, Capistrano Valley, scored two goals in a 4-0 soccer victory over Dana Hills and one in a 3-0 victory over then-No. 1 Mater Dei.

* Ali Ton, Los Alamitos, had 24 points and 11 assists in a 77-59 victory over Katella and seven points and 10 assists in a 69-41 victory over Esperanza.
