Victor Lombardo; Bandleader, Performed With Royal Canadians

Victor Lombardo, 82, youngest brother of musician Guy Lombardo and a bandleader in his own right. A native of London, Canada, the younger Lombardo was a featured performer in hundreds of recordings and musical films in the 1930s and 1940s. He was the saxophone soloist in his brother’s Royal Canadians and briefly took over the band’s direction after Guy died in 1977. Bearing a close resemblance to his brother, Victor Lombardo soothed television viewers by fronting the Canadians at their annual appearance at New York’s Waldorf Astoria Hotel for the 1977 New Year’s Eve. But Victor soon left over “little differences” with another brother, Lebert, and formed his own band. On Saturday in Boca Raton, Fla., of complications of asthma.
