The girlfriend of one of the suspects in a Jan. 16 hostage standoff in Downtown Los Angeles killed her 4-year-old son before trying to commit suicide in Reno, police said Wednesday.
Acting on a tip from Los Angeles police that Maria Leacando Calambro, 23, might have made a suicide pact with her jailed boyfriend, Reno officers went to Calambro’s mobile home.
There they found Binh Canto Calambro, his wrists slashed and a rose on his chest, lying dead on the bed next to his unconscious mother. Calambro had slashed her wrists, police said.
Calambro’s boyfriend, Duc Cong Huynh, 38, a suspect in the Jan. 3 murders of two employees of a Reno business from which Duc had been fired, and Alvaro Calambro, 20, were arrested in Los Angeles early on Jan. 17.
Los Angeles officers alerted Reno police to a possible suicide pact between Duc and Maria Calambro after Duc allegedly tried to kill himself in his jail cell over the weekend.
