French Market’s Roof Collapses; 3 Killed
The concrete roof of a busy supermarket in Nice collapsed Wednesday. Authorities said at least three people were killed, more than 94 were injured and five to 10 remained trapped in the rubble.
Rescue crews, assisted by dogs, searched carefully into the night, working around chunks of concrete that had fallen into the aisles of groceries.
Seventy of the injured were taken to area hospitals and 30 of them were admitted, including six in serious condition, officials said.
The collapse occurred about 4 p.m. in the Casino supermarket, which faces the Nice airport and is near the western end of the city’s famous seaside boulevard, the Promenade des Anglais.
