* At last some of our legislators have discovered what many of their constituents have known for quite a while. The “War Against Drugs” has been a dismal failure. Prisons are bulging with minor drug offenders, preventing the long-term incarceration of perpetrators of serious crimes.
Drug addiction should be viewed as a medical and a social problem. Let us hope that the National Coalition for Drug Policy Change and the surgeon general continue to seek solutions to a complex problem.
