Nation IN BRIEF : WASHINGTON, D.C. : Alfalfa Club Drops Its Gender Barrier
Hillary Rodham Clinton helped break the gender barrier at the Alfalfa Club as it opened the door to its first women members and guests. President Clinton and the First Lady were guests for dinner as the 81-year-old club inducted its first female members: Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, former Transportation Secretary Elizabeth Hanford Dole, and former Washington Post Co. Chairwoman Katharine Graham. The President was among the speakers who entertained the crowd, which included his predecessor, George Bush.
